Description

Protein transcription factors regulate genes by binding to specific DNA sequences and either activating or repressing transcription. For example, some transcription factors bind to promoter regions and recruit RNA polymerase, which activates transcription. Other transcription factors bind to promoter regions and block RNA polymerase from binding, which represses transcription.
